    A kitchen with a view

    by  • October 29, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 2 Comments

Anyone recognise this beautiful kitchen from Magnet? Well it’s just shot to fame as the new kitchen design for ITV’s This Morning… I’m sure the paparazzi will start stalking him while he’s doing his shopping soon enough!

The Crème Lineaire from the purely Magnet range, was chosen for its feminine curves and sleek gloss finish. The soft cream will look great

on camera and the simple lines are elegant and stylish. I predict a new Vogue cover star!

I just don’t know who’s luckier, the handsome Phil Vickery or the kitchen??

I have a crush on this beautiful kitchen!

    by  • September 7, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 3 Comments

There, I said it! I’m not about to start calculating our love compatability, putting it’s photo in my pencil case, and popping his name into dreamphone (god I sound past it) BUT I must admit I gave this stunning kitchen a similar double-take to when I saw Dominic West in Leicester Square the other month!

I love it’s casual restaurant vibe, it’s relaxed open-plan finish and it’s mix and match finishes – and how the dining ‘zone’ is defined by trendy bar-style pendant light, sexy tableware and a monochrome rug. So if you’re looking for kitchen colour ideas, it’s all about being brave with pattern!

Oh to be sitting at that table with friends and a large glass of red wine… (not sure I’d get any cooking done?)

'The Kitchen I Envy' by Magnet's Alison Coleman

    by  • July 22, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 0 Comments

Looking to update your kitchen? See what designs inspire the experts! We asked Magnet’s kitchen guru, Alison Coleman

“Having worked in the kitchen industry for eight years, I can’t help but have a healthy curiosity for other people’s homes and in particular their kitchens. In fact, I can’t go to a friend’s house without taking a sneak peak at their worktop, or stealing a glance a their kitchen units.

Over the years kitchen trends have come and gone. I’ve seen some pretty ghastly things in my time such as corked walls and the era of TV inspired DIY kitchens during the 90s produced some pretty horrific results.

Last year we installed a kitchen in a home that featured a mix of Caldo Walnut and Urban Noir units. It looks stunning – the dark gloss really complement the wood and overall effect looks really exclusive. The black granite worktop is so sleek, I love the way it blends seamlessly in to the hob and the slate look floor really compliments the dark gloss units.

It’s a really great example of how you can customise a kitchen by mixing different styles and units in one space.

'The Room I Envy' by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen

    by  • July 13, 2010 • 'The Room I Envy' by ..., Cool kitchens • 1 Comment

Laurence Llewelyn-BowenNot content with stealing his style tips for bedrooms and bathrooms, I asked Laurence to tell roomenvy about why he loved the new Ellipse kitchen he helped style for Moben. Read on to find out …

“Once-upon-a-time, kitchen planning could pretty much be done with a ruler and a set square – not so with this fabulous kitchen. This is a kitchen that has bent the old die-hard design rules with the introduction of a sensuously curved island unit.

Crisp, clean straight lines are great, but there’s nothing quite like the sumptuous curves of a Reubens’ nude. As a creative person, I adore the fluid flexibility of these elliptical units, which can be configured in a variety of ways to produce everything from an undulating curve to an almost circular horseshoe form.

This fabulous curved island unit not only makes a fabulous social centrepiece but features all the convenient storage and practical workspace you could ever need in a kitchen. Add a specially curved white worktop incorporating state-of-the-art domino effect hobs and this is a kitchen literally designed around your every need.

I have had a massive input into the styling of this latest kitchen range. The white high gloss finish of Ellipse is a very contemporary statement and I worked very hard with the styling team to ensure that it is shown in a very glamorous and stylish context. I decided on a monochrome theme and scheme to the kitchen, with trendy dark painted concrete floor, grey tone walls, white work surfaces and smart black and white furnishings, fabrics and accessories, which all come together to stunningly stylish effect.”

Since I’m quizzing Beautiful KitchensYsanne Brooks on all things … well … kitchens, I thought I’d spend the morning getting clued up on the latest designs! Check out this little beauty.

    Moroccan-style kitchen

    by  • July 5, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 3 Comments

You don’t have to fill your kitchen with colourful and fragrant spices and employ a monkey to entertain your guests (my experience of an authentic Moroccan kitchen .. seriously!) to get that North African look in your home. It’s all about a couple of key accessories, like this intricate metal pendant lamp … plus some bright and colourful accents.

I love the ‘modern Morocco’ feel of this kitchen.

    Kitchen ideas on a budget

    by  • June 24, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 1 Comment

I know, I know, no one wants to here the word ‘budget’ at the moment, but when it looks this pretty (I’m not going to attempt to compare it to George Osborne) then it’s definitely worth the initial groan.

This super-funky kitchen was updated for less than £140! It’s all in the colourful accessories, and ‘designer-chic for less’ statement furniture pieces.

Decorating top tip: Break the colour rules and combine hot pink with lipstick red – against white almost any colour mix goes.

Kitchen design ideas from the movies

    by  • June 9, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 5 Comments

Anyone recognise this GORGEOUS kitchen? From the moment I saw It’s Complicated I knew I was in love … and it wasn’t with Alec Baldwin, I’m afraid, it was with this kitchen. In fact, this may even have been my favourite thing about the film! Thankfully, Silverscreensurroundings and Remodelista were here to help, thanks guys – I really felt like staring at something pretty this morning!

I love the mix between the rustic tableware and linens teamed with industrial-chic pendant lighting. Above all, you can tell that this is the ultimate ‘cook’s kitchen‘ with practical storage, bags of surface space, and a breakfast bar (plus dining area) close by so that they can chat to their guests while serving up a storm. (But no more cheesy and romantic croissant making between Meryl Streep and Steve Martin, please!)

Beautiful kitchens for a beautiful day!

    by  • May 18, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 3 Comments

I’m a self-confessed web fanatic, I love seeing all the latest decorating trends hot off the press, and I LOVE scanning hundreds of beautiful images for inspiration.

BUT recently I’ve discovered a new summer afternoon crush, he’s called ‘reading decorating magazines in the garden (park) with a glass of wine’. He’s inspiring, he gives me time to myself (something to do with the imaginary ‘don’t bother me’ label I have strapped to my head), and what’s more, he gives me complete control over my decorating style. I think it’s love!

I saw these stunningly beautiful kitchens while browsing this weekend, and I couldn’t help but share them with you!

This sweet as candy kitchen looks good enough to break my diet!

I’m loving kitchen wallpaper at the moment, and this feature wall certainly makes a statement!

Anyone who knows my love of all things Lost will understand my intrigue about this kitchen’s hatch!

Editor's Envy: Beautiful Kitchens' Ysanne Brooks

    by  • May 10, 2010 • 'The Room I Envy' by ..., Cool kitchens • 2 Comments

I’m always intrigued to see how the editors of interior design magazines decorate their homes, so I was so pleased when Ysanne Brooks, the editor of Beautiful Kitchens, agreed to chat to me about her dream kitchen … I knew it would be a glamorous one …

“Since I moved house last year I’ve been planning an overhaul of the kitchen… Sadly, it was all in my head as my husband had made me promise not to spend any more money! Then the great washing machine disaster of 2010 happened and I turned a negative into a positive.

Telling him sweetly not to blame himself, plumbing skills aren’t the be all and end all, I quietly remarked ‘well, now that the floor’s ruined we might as well rip it up and while we’re at it, the rest of the room looks a bit jaded…’ and I finally got to make my dreams for a new kitchen a reality.

I see lots of fabulous kitchens but the main inspiration for my new scheme was this painted design from Roundhouse. We’re featuring it in Beautiful Kitchens later this year and when I saw it I simply said ‘That’s my kitchen!’ I just love everything about it. The chic, dark and pale grey units in stunning Farrow & Ball shades, the stark white worktops and the cool mirrored splashbacks.

According to Ysanne, she’s now knee-deep in flooring choices, but I LOVE the way she turned a decorating mishap into a complete kitchen overhaul. Follow her journey at www.beautifulkitchens.wordpress.
