Friday's Fetish: Decorating with Parisian panache!

by  • November 6, 2009 • Beautiful boudoirs, Desirable dining, Inviting hallways, Stylish living • 1 Comment

I’ve been on the hunt for more decorating trends on Homes & Gardens. I love this glamorous Parisian-chic look even more than I love the fact it’s Friday! Yes, it’s fairly high-end but that doesn’t put me, and my ‘not exactly a mansion’ house, off! There are plenty of great style ideas to steal!

Go for a sugared-almond pink shade on the living room walls and team with tightly upholstered & button-back furniture to get that glam Parisian look.

Arrange furniture loosely and don’t be afraid to mix and match designs – it’ll add that ‘relaxed French cafe’ feel. Gold accents liven up the pastel green walls in this dining room.

It’s all about elegant upholstery and generous curtains in vibrant colours. A screen like this is ideal for breaking up a large open-plan space.

I’m not sure about this hallway idea though. I think green walls look great against the stone flooring, but a ship chandelier isn’t really for me – although, statement hallway lighting most certainly is.

The strewn scores of music are the best bit – nothing says Parisian glamour quite like imitating a restless 18th century composer!!

Can't wait for new Twilight movie?

    by  • October 7, 2009 • Stylish living • 7 Comments

Is anyone else as HUNGRY for the new Twilight movie/Robert Patterson as me? (Hungry enough to drink blood might be pushing it, but hungry I indeed am!) Well I just cannot wait til November, but luckily Design Tavern has enough to whett my appetite this morning, with pictures of the real life Cullen House! Now you can create the look yourself … perhaps not the location though (not so practical!) – oh if only the gorgeous Robert came with it.

Thank you so much Design Tavern!

… and not a moat in sight!

Not the house to walk around in your underwear!

I just LOVE that oversized floor lamp

All in all, I really like this house, but I think it looks much better with Robert Pattinson in it. I don’t think I could handle being that exposed (so many windows), plus climbing all those trees to get to it might start to become a bit of a nuisance.

    Something to chalk about

    by  • August 21, 2009 • Inviting hallways • 1 Comment

Thanks for your comments on the ‘back to school’ home office idea! I followed Vivian’s advice and headed straight to Martha Stewart‘s website for some handy ways to use chalkboard paint. Then I got a bit carried away, trying to see what other cool chalkboard ideas I could find …

I really liked The Style Files‘ chalkboard ideas for kids bedrooms – what a fab way to get them to personalise their space (hopefully it’ll distract them from moving onto the walls!)

Plus, this next chalkboard idea from housetohome takes the term ‘shopping list’ to a whole new level (I’m not even sure there’s room for all my weekend’s errands though, groan!)

I also love this organised hallway idea – each family member gets their own chalk memo board, for photos, reminders … or funny notes to each other. Keep it clean people!

    Clever storage: clear hallway clutter

    by  • August 13, 2009 • Inviting hallways • 1 Comment

Check out this super-organised hallway! It’s ideal for the busy family lifestyle, with built in shelving for baskets filled with everything from hats, gloves and scarves, to ‘man drawer essentials’ (keys, batteries, foreign currency!) It also has a handy seat for when you’re taking off muddy shoes, and a storage area underneath for you can to stash them. I think it’s great!

    I love wall stickers

by  • May 7, 2009 • Beautiful boudoirs, Cool kitchens, Inviting hallways, Stylish living • 5 Comments

Is there anything better than a wall sticker – I don’t think so. I read plenty of interiors magazines and regularly see the headline ‘Instant ways to transform your home’ and they never quite live up to that promise.  Except when it comes to adding a wall sticker of course.  Check out this round up of the latest designs on housetohome.
