    Friday's fetish: woodland-inspired decorating

by  • October 22, 2010 • Beautiful boudoirs, Desirable dining, Inviting hallways, Stylish living • 2 Comments

Thought I’d give you all a break from my Christmas decorating looks on the high street addiction. I’m not the biggest fan of getting really excited about something and realising I have to wait 3 MONTHS for it, so I think it’s best I end the week inspired by something that is a bit more current.

Country Homes & Interiors‘ latest decorating trend is all about taking cue from the Autumn forest with its turning leaves (although the closest tree to my home in London is a mug tree) and abundant wildlife and creating your won cosy nest in rich, warming colours.

    Check out these beautiful schemes.

Combine a plain sofa with an armchair in a tree-print fabric for an informal snug-style living room. Add a selection of cushions in different fabrics and a rug in a bold design.

Dress a French-style bed in crisp linen, smart stripes and cosy throws. Bring in the woodland element with curtains and scatter-cushions in embroidered leaf, tree and animal designs.

Make a wooden-topped Gustavian-style table the centrepiece of a dining room using teal as the accent colour, dress chairs in loose covers, and of course, choose a fabric in a warm Autumnal pattern.

Country decorating trend: on the riverside

    by  • August 20, 2010 • Uncategorized • 4 Comments

Punting down the river on a warm summer’s afternoon, cocktail in hand, is my idea of heaven. So when i spied the riverside decorating feature in September’s Country Homes & Interiors, I almost fell overboard.

I love the idea of creating a cosy little picnic spot overlooking the river. This summer is all about easy-going stripes in the fresh new colours of lilac and pistachio – and it works a treat. Add floral bunting, colourful picnicware and a comfy steamer chair to relax in. What more could you want?

Want to recreate the riverside look at home? Make a luxurious statement with a fabulous wooden bath tub and the softest of towels.

Bunting and flags give an instant party feel to outdoor dining. Set folding canvas directors’ chairs around a teak table dressed up with stripes.

I found some really pretty ways to decorate with florals in the May issue of Country Homes & Interiors. They’re perfect for adding a touch of country charm to your space, without breaking the bank (… or actually buying a house in the country!)

Find inspiration with these beauties …

Liven up a bed with colourful throws and beautiful floral scatter cushions.

    Colour your country kitchen

    by  • March 31, 2010 • Cool kitchens • 2 Comments

First it steals an hour of our precious weekend sleep, then it steals our sunshine – the month of April has a LOT to answer for!! I’m drowning out the sight of the grey skies and the ‘dare I leave the office at lunch?’ weather, with bright and cheery country kitchen ideas.

Check out these ways to colour your country kitchen from Country Homes & Interiors‘ April issue – I feel less rained upon just looking at them!

Create an eye-catching display of clocks, radios, trays with bold patterns and accessories in contrasting colours – white-painted cabinetry will ensure they stand out.

roomenvy - handy kitchen office area

If you have enough space, why not create a little office area. The kitchen is usually the heart of a family home, so I love the memo board and wall of blackboard paint – ideal for keeping everyone organised. Add to that the cheery and pretty baskets for sorting and storing magazines, receipts and … dare I say it … bills!

A quick way to bring instant lift to a kitchen is to paint the chairs. Use on colour for a matching set – or mix and match, so when you tire of one shade you can just paint the chair again!

Plus, if you’re looking for more country kitchen ideas, watch the editor of Country Homes & Interiors, Rhoda Parry, talk through her 5 steps to a country kitchen.

    New country decorating trend: Indienne

    by  • February 23, 2010 • Beautiful boudoirs, Stylish living • 2 Comments

I’m always on the lookout for a new country trend, not that my decorating bank budget enjoys this side of me. Anyway, I saw this exotic look in February’s Country Homes and Interiors mag (pssssst, you can read them online, on the Editor’s blog Countrydays). It’s all about rich velvets, luxurious beading and ornate patterns, all for an Eastern-inspired flavour that’s sexy and spicy!
