    Bedroom designs for those on a budget

    (… and those who weren’t naughty enough to decide to have THREE summer holidays!) I always go straight to the ‘cash clever decorator’ section of Ideal Home magazine (although I make sure I do it subtly on the tube when surrounded by important-looking people in designer suits). They always have beautiful decorating ideas that won’t hurt your purse’s feelings.

    Take this vintage bedroom ideas, all for less than £130!

    It’s all about blowsy rose-prints in bold black and white. This is perfect if you want a girly scheme but your husband has vetoed any pink!

    Decide where the main focus of the pattern should be – they’ve opted for the bedlinen, but you could go for a feature wall or curtains – and go for a twist with the pattern, the rug here is dominantly black with white flowers while the bedlinen is the opposite. Keep the rest of the scheme light with black accents like the flower wall art.

    Bedroom decorating ideas to tweet about …

    Just when I thought the decorating world had tired of the bird trend and moved on to other creature comforts (remember that horsey hallway idea?), I decided that I had not! I still love how our feathered friends can pull a scheme together with a feature wallpaper there, or some funky bird-print bedlinen there. It’s all about adding cute accents … not dressing your bedroom up like some sort of birdcage! Think pretty and welcoming, not Alfred Hitchcock.

    This bedroom design idea from Copy Cat Chic is a little over the tip for me – reminds me too much of my childhood bedroom … don’t ask! – what I do love is the contrast between the vintage wallpaper and the modern punchy blue table lamps and matching stools.

    I’ve popped up this bedroom idea before, but I think this folky bedlinen from John Lewis is adorable, and a lovely light take on the bird trend.

    I spotted (or should I say ‘twitched’?) this on Apartment Therapy. Now we’re swaying more towards Alfred Hitchcock style, but it certainly makes for an eye-catching feature in this bedroom.

    Everyone’s chatting about black and white bedrooms this week, and although I am trying to egg summer on with chat of vintage florals and beach-hut inspired decorating, I’m afraid I’m going to have to hop on the bandwagon! These bedroom decorating ideas are simply dreamy!

    And you don’t have to go all-out with all-black walls and white accents (quite the intimidating look!), instead, add definition with black wallpaper or monochrome bedlinen.

    Decorating ideas for bedrooms – soft metallics

    I’ve been getting bags of inspiration from Ideal Home‘s recent feature on ‘blast away the beige with modern neutrals‘ – perfect if you don’t want to add to much colour, but are about as tired of cream as you are of Mondays!

    This bedroom design idea is sooooooooo pretty – best ask your hubby for permission first, mind – there’s a lot of girlyness involved! Add softly shimmering shades with with a metallic feature wallpaper, silk cushions and mirrored accessories. Don’t go too crazy with the metallic tones though, highlight just a few areas NOT the whole room – remember sleek, not freak!

    Finally keep the furniture simple and not too ornate to avoid the decorating scheme from looking too fussy.

    Horny decorating trend!

    What is it with the antler heads floating about at the moment? It seems you can’t swing a dead cat… ok, maybe wrong choice of phrase, but decorating with antlers is a hot trend, nonetheless!

    I can’t think of anything worse that having a giant DEER HEAD staring at me whilst eating my cornflakes (or as I creep home late at night – shudder) but I think some of the faux antlers look quite funky.

    It’s becoming a habit now, the more I feel snowfall brush cheekily on my cheek, the more I look for warm and cosy decorating schemes … or failing that, decorating schemes in BOILING HOT countries.

    Take this laid-back, tropical island home in Bali. Weathered wood, shots of jewel colour, Asian accessories – this is where ‘can I come in?’ becomes ‘can I move in … please?’

    Friday's Fetish: French country style

    Ok, well this won’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s heard me DRONE on about my love of all thinks ‘pretty’ and ‘country’, but I just cannot get enough of French country-inspired decorating style.

    It’s all about soft tones, white painted furniture, delicate and feminine accessories (ahem, I mean MANLY accessories – for those hubbies who need convincing) and personalised finishing touches – ooooh and lots of hanging hearts!

    I saw these pics in a recent edition of Country Homes & Interiors (an avid fan? Moi?) and personally I think they bring new meaning to the word ‘roomenvy’ … as in I’d sit in a bath filled with baked beans for two days if it meant getting this look in my home.

    Extreme perhaps, but love has no boundaries!
