Global Gathering … but less hardcore

    by  • August 10, 2010 • Stylish living • 0 Comments

If loud pumping music and a row of poorly-pitched tents aren’t your thing, then check out these more PG global gathering schemes. Summer’s hottest modern interiors trend takes exotic colours and textiles and a brand new adventure … and not a portaloo in SIGHT!

Team a subtle four-in-one table like this one, with an exotic patterned rug.

by  • August 9, 2010 • Bathroom bliss, Beautiful boudoirs, Best of the rest, Stylish living • 3 Comments

I love these pretty pink decorating ideas from Homes & Gardens. From delicate coral to punchy cerise, shades of pink are perfect for giving your summer an uplifting feel… something we all need (not mentioning any names Monsieur. RAIN!)

Give your terrace a modern Moroccan feel with spicey pink shades, corner seating and intricately detailed cushions.

Can I come in? Melbourne converted warehouse

by  • August 5, 2010 • Beautiful boudoirs, Cool kitchens, Desirable dining, Stylish living • 2 Comments

This house in Australia has BAGS of modern vintage quirkiness. I don’t rave about modern homes as much as I should and I was truly star-struck by the beauty … it being situated in beautiful Australia having nothing to do with it, of course!

Take a tour with me, it costs sooooooooooooooo much less than the flight!

Utility-chic metro tiles give the kitchen a modern elegance, while the green pendant lights add a retro touch.

Toy Story 3 – boys' bedroom ideas

    by  • August 4, 2010 • Uncategorized • 6 Comments

Hmmmmmmm, anyone guess what I’m going to see at the cinema tonight? I’m so excited about Toy Story 3 and chatting about Andy’s bedroom still counts as work, right?

Here’s how to get the look … unfortunately it goes against my rules for kids room decorating.

    1) Andy’s lovely mum has gone for a bright wallpaper all over the boy’s bedroom scheme, but this might prove a problem when Andy grows up (which apparently he has, sniff sniff) and starts bringing home girls. Keep the walls neutral so it can be updated.

    2) Bright furniture like this can look garish in the real world. To add colour, choose bright bedlinens (or the fantastic duvet set we’re raving about on Housetohome) and accessories (psssst check out this photo gallery of the best Toy Story 3 accessories).

    3) Create a work zone. Whether it’s for Andy when he finally stops playing with his toys, or for Buzz and Woody to call a meeting.

Garden party ideas for the weekend

    by  • August 4, 2010 • Best of the rest • 1 Comment

I’m hosting a garden party this weekend and am DESPERATE for ideas, so feel free to send any over! I’ve already set up lots of lovely lanterns, so that we can keep chitter chatting after dark, and I’ve got the food and wine. Now all I need to do is hand some bunting and create a cute table setting for the nibbles.

I really like the cute tips in this garden party ideas video – especially their idea for personalising your cocktails… perfect if you’re the only one not drinking, ahem – and I LOVE the garden party accessories. It’s getting me all excited!

Garden ideas – something for the weekend!

    by  • August 3, 2010 • Best of the rest • 4 Comments

Anyone seen the July issue of Ideal Home? Ahem, ok, to rephrase, anyone looking to create a STUNNING garden to relax in allllllllll weekend long? Ah ha, now you’ve perked up!!

Here’s how to create this … I’m going to say MAGICAL … outdoor space in just 5 easy steps.

    1) Find a quiet corner of the garden and finally put it to use (or in my tiny garden’s case, transform the ENTIRE space).

    2) Revamp old furniture with a coat of varnish and pretty cushions. Go for natural linens and cottons in greys, beiges and whites. Team with dark wood furniture for an exotic feel.

    3) Make it easy to set up. Nothing says ‘it’s winter again’ like your newly updated garden furniture withering in the rain – choose folding furniture so you can stash it away.

    4) Add plenty of shade. I adore this exotic Indian parasol from The White Company… enough to use as a regular umbrella.

    5) Grab book, grab cocktail and LAZE!

Lunchtime lust: decorating with spice yellows

by  • August 3, 2010 • Beautiful boudoirs, Desirable dining, Stylish living • 5 Comments

Nothing like a cheery spot of yellow to brighten up a tame Tuesday. I love these decorating schemes from Ideal Home. The style team are spot on – yellow has a reputation for being a zingy, energising colour when in fact, if you choose the right earthy tone, it can also create a mellow mood.

This is perfect for when you’re in a ‘not even a smiley sunflower can cheer me up today’ mood. Check out these decorating ideas

Be inspired city chic. The dining room features a mixed bag of concrete greys, sunshine yellow accents and a combination of wood and steel pieces.

I love the statement storage wall in this living room. Paint the back of the cubbies in a matching shade of yellow for an eye-popping focal point.

Stylist’s tip: Make patterns pop bu surrounding them with pieces in solid colours as seen in this bedroom decorating scheme.
